For @Joanie399 > September 1-30, 2015 Virtual Happy Birthday Leonard Peltier Action Event!!

This Year as I began thinking about how to present Leonard Peltier’s 2015 Virtual Month-Long Action Birthday Event on Social Networks, I felt a painful deep loss of something very vital missing. I knew instantaneously that loss is my dear sister/friend Joan Rodriguez (@Joanie399)—R.I.P. who moved on to Spirit World on February 22nd, 2015. We’ve done virtual action events together for Leonard since around 2010 (*and still have one going on). Joanie’s absence on Social Networks remains keenly felt by those who’ve known of her activism for Leonard and other causes. I keep in touch with Joanie’s daughter and I’ve spoken with a few of our mutual friends and they too have feelings similar to mine. Since Joanie’s Birthday is a few days after Leonard’s it seems more than fitting that this year’s event pays tribute to @Joanie399’s unparalleled Activism. To honor our beloved Joanie and to support Leonard in a Good Way, we ask that each of YOU take ACTION for Leonard. We all know that working for Leonard’s FREEDOM is the best way you can honor Joanie, those who have moved on before her….and of course Leonard!! From our ♥♥♥ we THANK YOU.
This September 2015 Leonard Peltier celebrates his 71st Birthday! His actual birthdate is September 12, 1944. To have survived more than half of his life in prison as an innocent man and to have lived to age 71 (which is comparable to 91 years outside of prison) is a phenomenal feat, so we’re going to CELEBRATE him ALL Month long and we’d LOVE to have you join us! Leonard is the longest held Native American Federal Prisoner in America. Many individuals throughout the world also consider him to be a Political Prisoner and a Prisoner of War. This event is an ACTION-ORIENTED Virtual Global Event from whatever device you use to access the Internet. Our Birthday wishes for Leonard are for his GOOD HEALTH & FREEDOM! There is ONLY one person in the World who can release Leonard from his unlawful wrongful imprisonment. That individual so designated by the United States Constitution is the current sitting President of the United States. Until January 2017, that individual is President Barack Obama. It is up to those of us who care about and support Leonard to focus our Positive Actions and Energies to President Obama and [respectfully] demand that he grant Executive Clemency to Leonard! You do not have to like our current government or our current president or his politics, but there is no getting around it that President Obama holds the KEY to Leonard’s FREEDOM! We encourage ALL supporters to contact the White House/ President Obama directly thru phone calls, e-mails, written letters (or faxes) and Twitter.

For those unaware of who Leonard Peltier is, there is a lot of information about him on the Internet but sadly some of the information is incorrect, misleading or outdated. Very briefly, Leonard is a Federal Prisoner; he has been imprisoned for close to 40 years. He was arrested in Canada on February 6, 1976 for the killing of 2 FBI agents during the “Reign of Terror” on the Pine Ridge Reservation in Oglala, South Dakota on June 26, 1975. He was extradited to the USA on December 16, 1976. Leonard’s time in Canadian prison counts as being “in Prison”. Both his arrest and extradition were based on falsified evidence from the FBI during the Presidency of Gerald Ford. On March 16, 1977 under the Presidency of Jimmy Carter, Leonard went to trial in Fargo, North Dakota where fraudulent evidence was presented and due process of law was ignored. The case of Leonard Peltier is complicated. The amount of Legal, Constitutional, Treaty, Civil, and Human Rights violations that he has endured during his almost 4 decades of wrongful incarceration are astounding. Leonard’s case has been made public knowledge through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), yet even this information has been misconstrued and misinterpreted. For current and accurate information about Leonard and his case please go to the following websites which were all established with Leonard’s knowledge and blessings:
  • Leonard has had numerous committees thru the years. His current committee ILPDC (International Leonard Peltier Defense Committee) > is a project of the Indigenous Rights Center LLC > a long dreamed for wish of Leonard’s that has finally come to fruition. This organization is dedicated to improving the lives of Indigenous Peoples within the borders of the United States and elsewhere.
  • KOLA > Established in 1987. Included here is a most excellent chronology of Leonard’s life/case broken down from his birth until 2014 >>
  • Friends of Peltier > Established in 2007 and a well-known go-to website >>
*In addition to this event please see our on-going “Monthly TWITTER STORM & Virtual ACTION Event for #LeonardPeltier!!” which occurs on the 6th of each month and on other special days that may be designated. >>
If you use Twitter please consider using this website as an accessory to your usual Tweet activity for Leonard. It is non-automated and has passed requirements as stated by Twitter. >> Please also consider using the hash tag #LeonardPeltier, it has been around the longest and has been proven easiest to use and track.
PLEASE don’t forget about the man himself. Send Leonard a Happy Birthday card or just a note letting him know that you are contacting President Obama and taking Positive Action on his behalf in asking that President Obama grant him Executive Clemency. Only send plain cards or letters:
LEONARD PELTIER #89637-132 —- USP COLEMAN I — P.O. BOX 1033 — COLEMAN, FL 33521
Through the years there have been many individuals, groups and organizations who have worked long and hard for Leonard’s Freedom. We acknowledge those who in Good Faith have given of themselves (both with us today and to those who have passed on) and we appreciate each effort so we can continue to carry the torch of FREEDOM onward. We also acknowledge each one in Joanie’s many Social Activism Networks, there are so many! Please excuse us, our outreach can’t compare to Joanie’s but we know that we all are doing the best we can to the best of our abilities.
Thank YOU All so very much for your Support. We are here in Solidarity, Good Faith and Respect! Our ♥♥♥ to Yours.

  1. Great work guys! Again, please, help Mr. Leonard Peltier get clemency, and/or the parole he, and humanity, truly deserves, advocate and evoke. Leonard has carried a constant burden for all of humanity, for over 39 years straight, graciously, courageously, and with great generosity, and, besides thanking him, we have a responsibility to act, not just to right the wrongs of this world, to act to lessen Leonard’s, and those like Leonard’s, burdens; they’ve humbly born for us all. Luckily, “we, the people…”, as opposed to the Gov’t who should be but isn’t, can still be the voice for those unheard; let us do what we can do to support Leonard’s clemency, etc.. I’m sending another set of letter, phone, fax, email to the President next week. Happy All Hallow’s eve’, in usa, blessings be…. reality
