On April 24, 1994 the parents of Wesley Cook aka Mumia Abu-Jamal were Blessed with his Birth. Life leads each of us in many directions and very sadly Mumia has been wrongfully enslaved by the State of Pennsylvania since 1982 for the unfortunate murder of a Philadelphia police officer. He is considered by many to be a Political Prisoner/Prisoner of War of the United States. One of the recent most eloquent of articles written about Mumia’s case and “celebrity” can be found here > “Mumia Abu-Jamal: A Black Radical Who Matters For Our Time” http://huff.to/1xqU7JB.
For most of Humankind Birthdays are celebrations of Life. Happy times, times of reflections, times of dreams, acknowledging past failures and moving on to new potentials….it’s hard to ignore a Birthday, even if the only one who remembers is the one who marks the calendar. Mumia has spent the past 33 years acknowledging / celebrating his Birthday in Prison. As a Social Activist his spoken and written words have both educated and empowered many. His words have also brought fear to many who chose to live behind a curtain of lies and hope no one pays attention to the words of Truth!

For Birthday #61, Mumia Abu-Jamal is fighting for his Life. The miracle of NOW is that he has survived tortuous medical neglect by the State of Pennsylvania Prison System. Gravely ill due to circumstances that lead to newly diagnosed Diabetes, Mumia’s life remains in significant danger if he is not given appropriate medical treatment which includes a nutrient-dense diabetic diet, frequent blood glucose monitoring, skin care for a misdiagnosed severe rash, medications, and more. Thus far supporters world-wide have made calls, sent e-mails, letters and tweets demanding that Mumia’s right to appropriate medical treatment be granted; these actions have fallen upon deaf ears and blind eyes including a beautiful and heartfelt letter penned by the Honorable World-renown Social Activist Archbishop Desmond Tutu of South Africa on April 10, 2015 to the State of Pennsylvania Department of Corrections.
Very plainly stated > appropriate, accessible, adequate Medical/Healthcare is a Constitutional, Civil, and Human Right in America (although ignored by most prisons, jails, detainment centers, etc)….“to willfully neglect, refuse to administer or procrastinate giving humane medical treatment and healthcare to prisoners is torture. So too is withholding needed treatment and care for political and bureaucratic reasons. I refer you to the United States Constitution, the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights, the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, the United Nations Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment and to the Geneva Convention; although the Geneva Convention refers to War, prison in my mind is War (bfw)”.
Please Join with Supporters around the World in Wishing Mumia a HEALTHY HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Right NOW the BEST Gift you can give to Mumia is taking ACTION and asking the following individuals that he be allowed to see a physician or physicians (if necessary) of his own choosing who specializes in Diabetes/Endocrinology and that the Prison follow medical treatment protocol for Diabetes by allowing him a Diabetic Diet (and other necessary treatments) as ordered by his Doctors. Please refer to Wesley Cook (#AM 8335) in your communications.
